AVTpro Subtitling Basics Exam
The AVTpro Subtitling Basics exam is designed to test the linguistic and cultural knowledge of your working languages as well as the basics of subtitling practice through a series of automated tasks. It is a prerequisite to taking the AVTpro Subtitle Translation and the AVTpro Subtitle Creation certifications.
Upon successfully completing the AVTpro Subtitling Basics exam, you are eligible to register for the AVTpro Subtitle Translation and/or the AVTpro Subtitle Creation certifications.

How to take the AVTpro Subtitling Basics exam
There are four tasks in total in the AVTpro Subtitling Basics exam, all of which you must pass in order to be eligible to sit the AVTpro Subtitle Translation and/or the AVTpro Subtitle Creation Certification. The tasks cover the following areas:
- Theory of subtitling
- Knowledge of English
- Knowledge of Translation
- Knowledge of Subtitling
We strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself well with the Style Guide of your working language before sitting the exam. You can download it by clicking on the ‘Style guide’ button above.
When you sign up for the exam, you will be provided with a unique link that you will have to use to take the exam.
This is an automated test. Within minutes of you completing the test, you will receive an email with your scoring as well as confirmation of your eligibility to register for the AVTpro Subtitle Translation certification and/or the AVTpro Subtitle Creation certification, if applicable. As soon as you receive the notification, you will be able to register for either of the two certifications.
